Névé is a floating vanity that combines a sculptural basin, machined from Corian, with a complimentary support shelf folded from a single sheet of steel. The Névé vanity enhances a bathroom space and enriches user experience by creating a tranquil rock pool environment within any modern home. The faceted bench top functions as multiple individual areas, which may be used according to object dimensions and daily routines. Inspired by glaciers and snow-covered mountain ranges, this design embodies elements of nature in a contemporary design aesthetic. Névé is named after a term associated with glacier formation, thus reflecting design intention behind the floating vanity.
The simplicity of this support shelf allows for uncluttered, easy to access storage while creating a secure wall mount for the basin to fasten to. This is achieved by using a single sheet of steel that is laser cut and folded into a form that compliments the design theme.
The faceted top is digitally crafted through the process of CNC milling, which carves a single block of material according to the input of digital design data. Using this process allow manufacturers to update the design with ease creating different faceted patterns with every iteration and enables short run production of unique designs or even bespoke pieces to meet customer specifications.
The process of CNC milling is not commonly associated with commercial bathroom products; however the flexibility it offers is undeniable. The intention of this design is not to fit within established paradigms of commercial manufacturing, but to challenge them. It is to ask the question: can CNC milling be used as a commercial manufacturing process to create new and exciting forms for the modern lifestyle?
