SC Talking Book

SC Talking Book Services provides library services to the blind, visually impaired, and physically disabled residents of South Carolina. The content on this site began as a section of the main SC State Library website. I decided to spin it off into its own website to design a specialized user experience taylored to the needs of its target market.

I designed the visual identity of the project from the logo to the website. I used Drupal 7 to manage the site content. I created a special content type and view (Lionshare) which functions as an ad hoc library catalog for audiobooks that the Talking Books team produces in house.

The site is built to allow for accessibility enhancements as needed. Currently, text/background contrast and font sizing are addressed. Regular usability surveys are planned in order to assess and fix any further accessibility challenges for site users.

I developed a custom Drupal theme incorporating layout and functional elements of the Twitter Bootstrap UI framework. I developed using the command line LESS compiler running on my development server and using the Autoless extension to monitor .less files for changes.

The visual identity of SC Talking Book Services is designed to fall in line with all of the SC State Library family of websites.
