The Derivation of Motion

GRAVITY AND REPLICATION
 
The midterm acted as a proposal and formalization of our design strategy for the remainder of the semester. We were asked to embody two approaches separately and then again as a singular, hybrid approach through work with language (neologisms, or "new" words), drawings, and models. All work is still to be rule-based in nature.
 
The "final product" was a 24x36 multimedia hybrid board that was to express the two approaches, explain the language behind them, and propose a final creation as an embodiment of the new hybrid approach.
GRAVITY
Rules focused on the derivation of densities and anti-densities (voids) created by the systematic drawings. "Gravity" means many things to many people, admittedly, and so the work explored the many meanings including orbiting, falling, singularities, and expansion.
REPLICATION
Similar shapes were repeated based on geometries from the layers below. The overlapping was purposeful and inherent to the process, creating depth that proved essential to the success of the hybridization process.
HYBRIDIZATION - TRAJECTIFLOAT
The most interesting discovery made throughout the hybridization process was of the motion that can be created when repeated forces and objects are mixed with a three-dimensional gradient of gravity strength. Trajectories naturally form and interact with each other, like with the many celestial bodies in space, to create a sort of dance throughout the space. The proposal contested that this "dance" held extreme potential for the creation of dynamic forms that, while static, imply motion.
