Mystery Case Files: 13th Skull

Mystery Case Files 13th Skull is a point and click hidden object adventure. As the art director, I worked with an allstar team guiding the visual direction and production. The advantage of having a small team is that each person gets to work on different aspects of the game. On this project, I got to do concept work, finished paintings, all the vFX, video compositing, video editing, matte painting, etc. For our characters we used live action actors filmed on a green screen stage using R.E.D. video.

This is the teaser game trailer.
This is the final boxart and logo design. The illustration was an award winner at "Into the Pixel 2011". http://www.intothepixel.com/artwork/2011_contest_winners.asp and was published in Spectrum 18 fantasy annual.
Rough concept sketches of plantation grounds.
Ccncept stylesheet for main character
This is the storyboard of the intro cutscene.
This was photos from the live action shoot on a green screen stage. The matte paintings where put into the monitor to create a live key. This allowed the lighting specilist to match the lighting of the scene. I took the footage and edited down. Then keyed the green out in Aftereffects and composited it into the matte paintings.
Here some examples of the finished animations and video clips. The characters are composited into the matte paintings with effects on top.
