Proposal
Cupcake has been around for a long time and it is still one of the most popular delicacies among the female consumers, especially the young adults. Cupcakes are convenient because they cooked much quicker than larger cakes and it is a good starting point for beginner to learn baking. In this magazine design, the concept is to create a cupcake recipe magazine as a weekly publishing. The magazine mainly focused on introducing variety of cupcake recipes depends on each week’s theme while also having few small articles that are helpful for the readers. Thus, the target audience of my magazine is soft and young feminine women (around the age of 18-30), who are passionate in baking cupcakes, whether as a hobby or interest regardless of their level of knowledge in baking.
A Valentine's Week Issue
The theme of this issue is emphasized on Valentine's Day, which is published during the week of Valentine’s Day in February 14th. The objective is to link the connection within feminine women and cupcakes through the event of Valentine’s Day. For the design strategy, the plan is to emphasize on the qualities of vintage, feminine, romantic and graceful to associate with the personalities of target audience as well as the event. Meanwhile, there are also usings of hand illustrated cupcakes as part of the design strategy to visually interact/connect with the target audience and indicate with the characteristic of the graphic elements, especially to offer a traditional look across the magazine design. The another reason of using illustration is to express the appreciation toward illustration and emphasize on the characteristic of vintage by ‘bringing’ the readers back into the era where photography and print technology has not been invented whilst everything we see in life were all illustrated/painted.
Soft and Feminine
The main focus is presenting the composition of text and imagery in a rather neat and simple style in turn to offer the atmosphere of harmony and vintage without causing distraction to the readers when they are trying to learn the recipe. It is not only to keep the clarity of information as focal point of recipe magazine, but also to communicate with the readers across the personality of the magazine design without have to confuse them in the process of understanding the context. Meanwhile, the colours used are mainly soft and feminine colours such as tints of beige, rose pink along with the contrast of rose red as part of romantic relation across the magazine issue due to the event of Valentine.
Digital Magazine
There are also accessibilities for the magazine provided across digital platforms. The aim is to create a digital magazine that is simple and clear to function with while users are going through each recipe and article. When user clicks on the magazine cover on newsstand, the first thing to pop up would be the welcome page of the issue and it will lead the users to “how to use” page when they tab on the screen.
Convenience and Clarity
Nevertheless, there is major emphasis on the convenience and clarity offer for the users so that they can focus on reading through the magazine without having any difficulties or disturbance while using.
