Challenge:

Develop an application-based directory to help colleagues put the names at the bottom of emails to the faces in the elevator.

Result:

Swipe is an entertaining name game that also functions as a visual directory. When playing, the user is prompted with a colleague’s face and seeks to swipe as many names correctly as they can in order to move up the office leaderboard. A fun twist is that new colleagues and interns join the office all year around, so the game changes constantly.

Process / Research:

The key design factor was making sure the user could filter through tons of information with ease. It was also important to make sure that a user’s fingers never blocked a colleague’s face on the screen. These factors lead to Tinder as a primary inspiration. However, I found that Tinder’s interface worked a little too well and that for my scenario I needed to slow people down. I hope to revisit this application in the future to also include a user’s skill sets and departments.
