For this poster, I wanted to show the Android mascot in a way we have never seen him before. We see him with his arms moving this way or that, and sometimes he is tilted to one side or another, but we have never seen him move in three dimensions before. I wanted to put him in some kind of action pose, and after deciding to include the silhouette of the city in the foreground, the idea to pay tribute to classic monster movie posters was a natural fit.
The 'movie credits' part of the poster is actually the promotional copy from the website. Angling it and having it run right off the page makes it look like the Android is crashing into the scene so hard he's making the words on the poster move around. Also it signifies that the event is so big and so important that shouldn't need to read promotional copy, you should just go.
The lettering that makes up the sky is the words "Android Toronto" in Chinese over and over. I started out with Japanese characters but the Chinese letters were more complicated and gave increased visual interest.
