MUJI Electric Kettle Design

The goal for this project is to design a electric kettle for a brand of your choice. MUJI is a Japanese housegood brand that I respect a lot for their minimal, user friendly and simplistic design. I did research online as well as read the book MUJI 無印良品 to get inspired.
Started with basic sketches:
Quick rendering on one of my design featuring the square profile:
Quick fin model studies:
Full scale paper model studies:
Orthographic drawing:
Start making final model:
Cut and glue two pieces of blue foam together to have a big block to work with.
To avoid carving into the blue foam, I made my model in three parts.
Temporarily glued together and sanded down to measurements.
Carved the lip at the bottom.
Pull them apart and attach the sanded wooden handle. Make the end slimmer for easy attachement.
Apply wood glue to permenantly glue them together.
Apply wood filler where necessary.
Final sanding and move to spray booth. The base is 3D printed and I spray painted them together so they are in the same shade of white.Cover the wooden handle before spray.
After 2 coats of gesso and 4 coats of spray paint, remove tape and work on the handle.
Apply wood finish.
Final step: graphic on top.
Finished model without base.
This lip help to center the kettle to the base and make a sleek form.
Final form with base.
Notice the little slot at the bottom?
It's for the cord!
You can also store the cord when not in use (excuse the apple charger. )
