The Market Basket Team approached me, once again, to create their special buffet menu for Father's Day 2014. It was an honor, as always. I took the job offer with my hopes held high that I would satisfy their hunger for creativity, function, and style.
This first photo shows the final outcome of the poster and the first page of the special menu. A bow tie headlines the design, together with a lovely quote about a father. Then, comes the greeting or the title, the theme of the special event which is "Thanks, Dad!", because after all, Father's Day is all about appreciating all the super dads out there. Next are a few important details regarding the event.
It took a while before I finalized the design and colour scheme. First, I researched for inspiration for the design of the poster/menu, of course, making sure I do not copy anything. Second, I realized that I just wanted a single element to be the main subject, main image of the poster/menu. I didn't want that there be too much going on in just one layout. So, I decided to pick the four best images I see, and lay it out in just one colour scheme.
Now, these are the colour schemes I initially presented to the team. They like the orange-brown colour scheme the most.
Then, the next three images are the inner parts of the menu. Keeping the same heading, the bow tie, I added the text for the menu proper/food items below.
Once again, I can say my client/s were happy with the outcome of the poster. It served three purposes in one: A Poster to which was displayed around the restaurant early on; An invitation to the special buffet; and A Menu Cover for the special event menu.
I always make sure to give my clients options whenever they ask me to do a job. I do not want to feed them just one design because then they would have no other choice but to take it. I want them to feel comfortable and confident with their business communication collateral, because they are also experts in knowing what their customers want to see and feel from them, and I, lend them a hand by helping them through design.
