Gauntlet Gallery | Digital Renaissance Exhibit

"Dawn" - Created for Gauntlet Gallery's Digital Renaissance exhibit.

"Dusk" - Also created for Gauntlet Gallery's Digital Renaissance exhibit.

THE PROCESS
Here is the initial thumbnail sketch I did for "Dawn." Originally, I had the subject facing right, but decided to change it to the left before finishing it.

After the thumbnail stage, I draw a more detailed sketch onto paper. Then the drawing is scanned into the computer and finished digitally.

Unlike "Dawn," "Dusk" was drawn entirely in Photoshop. By using various reference images as well as a model, I was able to refine the original drawing to a more anatomically-correct pose. Using this kind of reference is important because it's more convincing to the viewer (and not a big distraction as when proportions are incorrect).

This GIF shows the many layers of the original file, which I like to keep (instead of flattening the image) in case we need to make adjustments later on. You can see what changes I made from the original sketch to the final image, which resulted in a stronger composition and a better piece overall.

THE EXHIBIT
Gauntlet Gallery's opening reception was held on October 17th, 2014 in San Francisco. Although I wasn't able to attend the event, here is a photograph from the gallery with the show up. It will be up until November 7 - check it out while you can!

PURCHASE
You can purchase limited edition prints and canvases online HERE. There are only 30 prints available and even less of the canvases, so get them while you can before they run out.

CLOSEUPS
It was an honor to be one of 14 contributing international artists to this beautiful group show - the other artists are all amazing and the end result is cohesive and powerful. See the rest of the works here: http://store.gauntletgallery.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1892
