For my illustration class, we had to design an illustration based on a metaphor about university life.

My metaphore was:
"University Life is like a roller coaster. There will be ups and downs, but the ride will always be fun."

So with that I created my illustration.
We spent about 5 weeks on these & I'm so proud of all the work I put into this.
Week 1 - Thumbnails
I drew about 10 different ideas, but broke it down to these three.
I took several elements from each one to create the final drawing.
Week 2 - First Draft
Like I said before, I took elements from my 3 thumbnails and came up with this idea.
I switched the views, added signs, and the smaller details (paper, logo, etc)
Week 3 - Final Drawing
This is my final drawing. Unlike the other image (done in pencil), this image is done in ink.
I also made a few changes to the signs, the coaster designs,
and made my character + the cart a lot bigger so the focus will definately be on her.
Week 4 - Value and Color Studies
This week was pretty difficult for me because I have trouble deciding what colors I like to use in an illustration.
I printed out my final drawing as this template to do my value studies on top and my color studies on the bottom.
The "x" is marked for the middle column because it's the colume I liked the best.
In the end I ended up choosing the far left value study & the middle color study to base my illustration from.
Week 5 - Final Illustration
For the coloring proccess I decided to put my final drawing on Photoshop.
I did a lot of editing, mostly erasing a lot of the smeared ink lines that happened while scanning
(I was eager to scan it, so I didn't wait long enough for it to dry)

I fixed up the lettering on the signs, a lot of my lines, and laid out my base colors.
The process was very tedious and I don't have WIP photos sadly.

Thanks for checking this out!
I also have a (somewhat active) art blog:
