Craigslist Redesign

The goal behind my Craigslist redesign was to connect people through community and accessiblity. The audience consists of the current Craigslist users. I wanted to be very careful with the design decisions I made. The current product is one that many users are comfortable with. Drastic change could alienate the audience currently using Craigslist. The new brand’s message aims to convey a sense of reliability, connectivity, safety, and culture.

Craigslist is an extremely easy way to search for housing, interact with people, and sell or buy products. The website has successfully given users an easy-to-use platform to create listings, sell their products, and engage with others. Symbol-wise, there is not much associated with the current site. They have always had a peace sign incorporated in some way or another, but there is no clear description on why it is used. The closest information there is involves a “for the people” hippie mentality the company has always held. I chose to use this element to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of Craigslist through a campaign that celebrates this milestone throughout the city of San Francisco, the company's home.

After researching color meaning and different type styles, I settled on a color scheme that includes different shades of aqua/turquoise. The design aims to be simple and easy to navigate. As far as body text, the type is a readable sans serif. The logo obviously needed an update. I created a symbol to associate with the brand and a more memorable wordmark. I wanted the “look and feel” of the brand to be simple, clean, positive, and community/people focused.
