First Take | Give It A Shot
Advertising, Print Design & Art Direction
First Take is an initiative by Substation. A monthly free screening of local short films that happens every monday night with a Q&A session with filmmakers at the end. It is a platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in film or filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. The challenge was really getting people to know about First Take at the same time promote The Substation’s First Take screenings as an alternative to a usual movie night-out.
The concept "Give It A Shot" literally plays on the meaning of "why not try it" but also the play on the word "shot". First Take is similar to a shot, very concentrated and it's so diverse in flavour as there are so many multiple films you can catch in an evening, that every shot has a different genre. First Take then becomes a local concoction of short films.
Short films = Shot
The solution was for a new image to First Take, a film event to be catered towards the young generation in order to inspire a generation. Thus a choice on the use of Neon Colours (Pink / Orange / Green) + Grey, a sense of bold, independent spirit and grunginess. Each poster features a different shot (different genre) and they were characteristically/uniquely named as though it was naming a drink. To bring the concept closer to film, the poster is like a snip of the film roll and each shot has an item that relates to film. Also the names of the drink were put between laurel leaf as thought its a movie award.
Film reel = Lemonade
Straw = Boom Speaker
Toothpick Umbrella = Light Umbrella
