Design Brief
Place of Words

Over the next four weeks, you will develop a body of research using your provided word and context. This research will become the premise and content of your book project. Every student’s word & context combination will be different.

The requirements for the project are as follows: The book must be any size between A5 & A3
and the final outcome must display the appropriate processes and programmes that you have learned within this unit including InDesign, grid systems, hierarchy, image making, bookbinding etc. The book must also contain a minimum of 8 pages plus cover and include text and images.

Word:Ritual  Context:Technological

For this project I explored the notion that social networks with in a technological context are taking over our lives as we know it. People are choosing to sit behind a screen and converse rather than meet in person. Editing, messaging, 'friending' people are all aspects of this and this what I have covered throughout this editorial piece. I experimented with contextual factors, using social networking technicalities and placing them in a real life scenario. This really applied perspective into how different our social networking persona, is compared to our real life persona.

I took inspiration for the design of the book from an ipad. Extracting interactive elements from this, such as the scrolling, zooming and layout. The red lines on each page are there to symbolise where you touch to scroll to the next page as well as highlighting the areas I wanted the audience to view.
