GIGANTIK ARPZ
A sound installation and performance with Victor Gama and Pedro Carneiro.

Gigantik Arpz is a contemporary musical instrument / sound installation with 10 long piano strings from 20 to 75 meters or more assembled across lakes, rivers, along beaches and in parks. It's made of two pairs of resonating boxes fixed to the ground on each side of the margins of a lake.

THE COMMISSION

We were approached by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to create a piece for the Next Future Festival of Contemporary Arts and Culture that could be displayed and presented in its park in the center of Lisbon.  The piece included the redesign of the old version of the Gigantik Arpz, its installation across the lake from margin to margin and a score for Gigantik Arpz and electronics that was written by Victor Gama and Pedro Carneiro. The piece was performed in two movements, one during the day and another at night. The GigantikArpz has been installed earlier at the Earagail Arts Festival in Ireland, the Serralves Foundation's Serralves em Festa in Porto and other major open air venues.
