I saw a karakonzhula

based on
Dirty Days

Karakonzhula is a similar creature to the vampire in western mythology. People visualized them as ugly, frightening creatures with horns, tails and beards. It was believed that the people who were walking on thestreets late at night were caught by a hobgoblin which mounted them, prickedthem with needles like a gill. Then it took them under the bridge of the riverand there it tortured them until first cock-crow.

Wood-nymphs
Wood-nymphsare heavenly beautiful, eternally young maidens with slim body, long blond hairand bewitching eyes which can make you dizzy and sometimes they can even kill. They wear white clothes – a long white dress or a white blouse and tunic. Theyhave a veil and a white cloak. At sunset the wood-nymphs go to places wherethere is water – lakes, pools, springs, fountains or wells. There they gotnaked and bathe, wash their clothes and hang them out in the moonlight guardingthem carefully not to be stolen. After that they gather on the same glade inthe remotest thick woods and dance a magic chain dance the whole night.

Dragon Chasers

based on

Dragon Chasing
Mancan never be sure whether a dragon is responsible for a disaster or not, because it is invisible and it not only does harm to the lands outside thevillage but it also hides in the village and does harm there. In such cases only experienced people can tell if it isa dragon or not. Then the villagers organize a battue for the dragon. Ithappens in the following way:
Thevillage public crier announces to thevillagers that a battalion of chasers is gathering. The chase itself takesplace at night, measures are taken with the beginning of the night. Peasantstie their dogs, so they cannot attack the chasers. Nobody, except theparticipants, should know who is going to chase the dragon. They shouldn`t beseen at night, too. The chasers gather together and take off their clothes. They hold strong and long sticks in their hands. They move speechless andnoiseless. If someone speaks, the dragon can hit him and this brings illness ordeath, like a hit or splash from fairies. Because of that villagers can findout about such passings of chasers, only from the dogs barking. The naked mensearch the whole village, entering cellars, pens, granaries and barns, hittingeverywhere their imaginary enemy which remains invisible for everybody. Afterthe end of the night chase, the disaster made by the dragon, which shouldalready be driven away, should stop. If it continues, it means that the battuedidn`t find the dragon.
