Posters on Cultural Authenticity

Individually One

The “fundamental principle” underlined in the Nara Document on Authenticity is that of a world where cultures must preserve their own heritage while respecting and upholding others’ to survive. Without the support of one another, the heritage and traditions of the world’s cultures - both past and present - will crumble.

The outer representations of a culture - the “tangible” parts - are the building blocks of a civilization. The products of people’s hearts in a culture - the “intangible” parts - are even more imperative. The core beliefs, the languages, the expression of creativity, love, and sadness, and the songs, dances, and stories passed down for generations are all the life blood of a culture. Both the inner and outer parts must be respected and preserved not only by the members of a particular culture, but all.

Together cultures can stand individually as one, but apart their beauty will fade and precious heritage will fall apart.
The Core

The “fundamental principle” underlined in the Nara Document on Authenticity is that of a world where cultures must preserve their own heritage while respecting and upholding others’ to survive. Without the support of one another, the precious heritage and traditions of the world’s cultures - both past and present - will crumble.

The monuments of each country and culture are a crucial representation of their history, creativity, and heritage. However, at the core of every culture is it’s people; without people to breathe life into the songs, the languages, the clothing, the beliefs, monuments are but an empty shell of what once was.

We are the life force of our own cultures - we must preserve our fire and celebrate the light of others’.
