The process that led to this poster is what's most interesting to me. It all started by extensive research on Mr. Lynch, and watching 3 of his movies, plus his art work and reading parts of his books. We all had a different film maker and part of the assignment was to research the time period when their careers were at their peek. If I counted Elephant Man as Lynch's top film, then I had to research the 70's. And so I did. And this is where it hit me. Lynch had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with that time period. He was a rebel, an outsider, an outcast. Against all winds. So I started researching surrealism. Magritte in particular. He was contradicting reality, or inventing his own to serve a story. "ceci n'est pas une pipe", "ceci n'est pas David Lynch", "ceci n'est pas un festival". And this is how this poster built itself.
Here's the final one and the process drafts. It made it into the Art Center Gallery in Spring 2011.
