Aerial Contortionist -Arthur street, Wellington
Client:
Isabelle Chasse is the solo aerial contortion artist  who created the silk performance act. She is a member of the Cirque du Soleil, an innovative circus which travels the world, where she performs her acrobatic act on a pair of bright red banners. She is suspended 10m off the ground while she twists her slender and incredibly flexible body into seemingly impossible ,graceful shapes to the background music. Her most famous, unique acts ,Les 7 Doigts De La main / the 7 fingers, features a solo performance of Isabelle Chasse eating a apple while performing her aerial contortion act.
Responce to client :
The 30 Authur street studio is the site for the living space for Isabelle Chasse. It will be a temporary space available for her to use for three to five months while on tour. She has a specific daily routine to prepare for her performance and specific personal comforts. The consideration of her private living such as sleeping trends, furniture, eating habits and performance needs are important aspects to provide, as well as including a practise space for Isabelle Chasse to warm up for her performance. Isabelle Chasse practise perfromance need to be viewed  by the public and a private living space is needed.
Concept :
A large red ribbon form flows through the building, wrapping and curving to create wall and floor surfaces. These surfaces seperate the open living space to create function and room spaces. The conceptual drive is the idea of contortion, seen in the twisted and overlapping forms, appearing to defy gravity with rooms placed high within the building with glass finishes giving the effect of veritgo and slender and graceful ‘silk-like’ shapes created with the bold ,flowing gesture of the ribbon.
