Caslano is an example of a typically sprawled settlement and this condition is visible even on the scale of neighborhood units. The different sectors are comprised of various types of residential units which are all, in general, disconnected from one another. The existing situation has the residents’ accessibility dispersed. This means that the neighbors have minimal interaction with each other on a daily basis. Also, the fencing that encloses each property is almost two meters high which means that each plot is almost entirely disconnected from one another. This creates an environment in which the residents, despite living in a community of sorts, behave exclusively and may not have the opportunity to get to know their neighbors. The aim of our intervention is to create a town with enhanced porosity, redefined inter-connecting borders and improved interaction between people via the use of semi-public/semi-private spaces. The strategies we have explored generate two possible approaches for this intervention that maybe constructed into a format to be applied on different sectors of Caslano. Read Less

Caslano is an example of a typically sprawled settlement and this condition is visible even on the scale of neighborhood units. The different sectors are comprised of various types of residential units which are all, in general, disconnected from one another. The zones chosen for our project represent all the typologies that are evident in most parts of the town. These typologies include the following

One to two storey family houses

Multistory apartment buildings

Semi – private paths

High hedge fencing

Excessive parking plots

Vacant green space

Strategy  explores the possibility of fabricating a track which may be used for jogging or exercises with semi-public spaces along its route promoting interaction.
