Background:

Louisiana Seafood has historically been known around the world for taste, quality and variety. Louisiana provides nearly 1/3 of all domestic seafood consumed in the continental U.S. and has a $2.4 billion total impact on the Louisiana economy. Wild, abundant Louisiana Seafood is a sustainable resource and represents a vitally important cultural and socio-economic jewel in America’s history. It’s no wonder when Louisiana sustained hardship after hardship with Hurricane Katrina and the catastrophic BP oil spill, the seafood industry needed to be saved. Saved from negative comments, saved from erroneous public information and saved from dramatic changes in the marketplace and the environment.

Challenge:

Stimulate the sale of locally harvested seafood.

Strategy/Solution:

Apart from the obvious message of “Hey Louisiana Seafood is Safe” to consumers one key aspect required to stimulate regrowth had to do with connecting restaurants and seafood buyers with local seafood suppliers. This was accomplished in large part through the creation of two websites, one for the public (buy.louisianaseafood.com) and one for seafood suppliers (sell.louisianaseafood.com) which is a membership site. On the public site restaurant operators and seafood buyers can submit requests for purchase of seafood from local suppliers by filling out and submitting an online form. Suppliers can then login to the supplier site to see a list of leads with pertinent contact information. Suppliers then have the ability to selectively pick and track leads to grow their business.

Results:

Currently the site receives many requests daily.
