Monterey California: World Class Scuba Diving
This is the view of the hike down to my favorite dive site in Monterey Bay. It's a long hike down with a lot of heavy equipment but once you get there it's worth it... until the hike back up.
Small secluded beach at the bottom. Perfect place to set up a grill to cook the fish you will catch if you choose to do some spear fishing.
Of course the best is underwater. I still remember the first time I went scuba diving in Monterey. The thing that impressed me the most was the purple color that seemed to be everywhere.
The kelp forests are the best. It's difficult to catch a good photograph of the kelp with my Nikonos V film camera. I need to try it with a new dslr.
I realize that this is not the best shot. Harbor seals may seem slow and clumsy, but underwater YOU seem like the slowest and clumsiest, at least compared to the seals zipping around, stopping just in front of your mask to bark at you then zipping away again. It's hard to turn your head fast enough to catch one on film.
Many local people do not take the opportunity to dive in Monetery because it's somewhat cold, compared to Mexico or the Carribean. Monterey bay stayes around 50-55 degrees Farenheit all year round. However if you can handle the cold Monterey is truly world class scuba diving.

My trusty Nikonos V film camera has always been good to me. These photographs were all taken in Monterey California.
