"The witch bottle is a very old spell device. Its purpose is to draw in and trap evil and negative energy directed at its owner. Folk magic contends that the witch bottle protects against evil spirits and magical attack, and counteracts spells cast by witches." - wikipedia.org (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_bottle)

My bottles are filled  and decorated with things of both entangling and reflective nature. I use pins and nails, bent wire, broken mirror, colored beads and other distracting baubles, salt, herbs, almost anything that feels right, feels deflective or distracting or absorbing. Sightless watchers.

The heads or tops are usually sculpted over some kind of permanent seal using an air-dry or epoxy based clay and then painted with acrylic paints and ink.

Traditionally witch bottles were buried under the front step or a fireplace. These bottles could be buried as such, but could also be placed on a shelf, especially above a doorway or near a window.

I consider my bottles to be both pieces of art and protective device. Sculpture spells. Guardian art. What ever way you would like to take them is fine with me.
