Social interaction makes people active, loved and respected. What constitutes our activity in society? The possibilities for adapting in the social environment can improve our personal social status and the possibilities for taking appropriate social roles. Every individual with his/her existence contributes to society and its development.
In the course of our lives, we can belong in different social groups that affect our ways of behavior, the way we dress, the way we express... Mutual relations between people are necessary in every society and all social interactions. The exchange and the norm of reciprocity establish relations of friendship and collaboration, and at the same time relations of dominance and subordination. In contemporary societies, unlike the primitive, impersonal relations govern most of the social interactions where money have the crucial role in the exchange and in life in general.
In his book "De Vita Beata" (On the Happy Life), Seneca the Younger says that a happy life is a life in accordance with its own nature, if the spirit is healthy and tenacious, adaptable to circumstances, if it is careful towards other things that make the life. According to him, a people should serve themselves without admiration and without the gifts of happiness.
Personal identity is our image of ourselves and consequently the image we present for ourselves in front of the others. The feeling of difference between social roles is something we also feel through our physical and psychological preparation for a certain social role. Social roles are actions and behaviors that happen in a predictable way according to previously adopted cultural patterns.
