Mostra Sonora i Visual is a sound art and experimental music showcase that takes place every two years at Convent de Sant Agustí, Barcelona. This cultural center is focused in the cultural outreach of sound art. Promoting young local and international artists but also exposing its historic background.
In this edition the concept inspiration came from a Thaumatrope, an antique Victorian toy considered as one of the first devices in the history of cinema and visual animation. The Thaumatrope is a disk with a picture on each side, attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to blend into one due to the persistence of vision. In this case, the device is not a disk but a string that takes the form of harmonic sound curves when tensed.
For the promotional video we used an intentional retro stop motion look to contrast the innovative character of the art and music projects shown in the event. The contrast between past and present, history and actuality is a leitmotiv of the center's brand identity.
