Two Orchid Paintings
Cluster of Orchids
Orchids Dancing
Two paintings of flower clusters from a single orchid plant.  These were part of an experiment in painting on wood.  Small (12 in x 12 in/30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) birch panels were used; paints are Old Holland oil colours.

In the first painting I focused largely on the glow of light across and through the petals.  In the second, the emphasis is on the patterns formed by the flowers against a background of wall and table - here abstracted to flat colour and line - and the patterns inherent in the flowers themselves.

the Orchids

Emphasizing different aspects of these lovely flowers has produced two different renderings. Both paintings are oils on birch panel.
