25 years in the future…

Today designer babies are quickly becoming a reality, allowing parents to choose the best combination of genes in a lab. We propose a future where designing babies is as easy as drinking a special liquid.

Private companies, like Chrome24, engineer these liquids, while the government (FDA) regulates their production. In this alternate future we see a world that is divided by people who support or oppose designer babies, and large private corporations have partnered with both sides to engage the issue.
In this project, we envisioned a future based on the things going on today, and communicated our conceptual future through a set of "catalogs."
The Burberry-branded book features children who are flawless in appearance, and then advertises barcodes that lead to the exact Chrome24 mixtures. The book goes through the process of having a designer baby.
“We understand this might be inconvenient for you and your family, so we’ve partnered with several high end smoothie stores to provide drink and food pairings to enhance the flavor and effects of the Chrome24 mixture”
“Your child will be incredibly healthy and will never get sick. They are immune to almost all diseases and in the small off chance that they do get sick, we will cover all medical expenses”
“Your child will look unique to your personal tastes and designs, but they will still fit in with the image that is unique to designer babies”
The Whole Foods-branded book, on the other hand, explains the process of having a baby without any mixtures, and promotes the organic products and natural methods workshops that Whole Foods holds.
"And if you are worried about your child not having a competitive edge in society, it’s time to stop worrying. In sports, education, and other areas, designer babies are placed into separate divisions. And some of the best leaders in our world are organic babies anyway."
“For Chrome24 babies, when the father and mother take different combinations of the mixture, they give birth to a disabled baby. We’ve seen the mentally retarded, the physically incapable, and everything in between—but your natural baby will be just how nature intends it to be."
