Multiple Team Productivity Report

An internal research team perceived as a cost center with it's qualifiable results needed to justify it's value add. The company loved data and numbers to inform decisions.

I developed a report workbook tracking the activity of three teams over a calendar year, with a roll up spreadsheet showing the whole group at a glance. This involved quantitative data consisting of hundreds of key data points that tracked and measured the teams performance. Because the report was reviewed monthly by upper management, it was important that it be a clear, easy-to-read Excel spreadsheet.

The documents printed on tabloid 11” x 17” with every cell was legible. Each team had a worksheet and the three teams rolled up into the group’s performance overview. The design needed to take into account multiple team members entering data and many formulas that rolled up to the master page.  Colors coding methods were used to minimize keying errors and broken formulas.

Upper management was able to review the monthly rollup page quickly and see without questions the teams value and positive impact on the company.

After the success of the first report, management requested a second report, this time, focusing on tracking a different part of the process. The spreadsheet was designed to highlight work effectiveness, quantify qualitative activities and identify area’s for improvement to upper management.
