Briefing

To adapt part the horse stables of an old farm into a boutique hotel whilst retaining it's original identity and atmosphere.

 

Concept

Everything that could be kept was kept and all changes to the existing building were limited to a minimum. This approach intended not only to retain the shape of the building but also to retain its patina and, ultimately, it's atmosphere.

The existing plastered walls covered by thick layers of lime whitewashing were retained and, when required, repaired by means of the same ancient techniques that were used for its construction.

Like the old stabels, each room is accessed directly from the exterior where a platform provides guests with a panormic terrace that compensates for the relatively introvertness of the bedrooms.

All rooms differ and in most cases have bathrooms that whilst hidden behind a freestanding wal, are not enclosed in a separate compertment.
