Design Studies Graduation Portfolio Book (2014)
The cover was printed on regular text weight paper because the printer couldn't handle heavier weights with the size specifications I requested. So the workaround was using spray adhesive to bind the cover to a thick stock for some extra heft.
Scoring of the cover.
Two complete scores made, which allowed the cover to fold properly and wrap around the inside pages. Four additional scores were also made 1 inch from the edge of the spine on both the inside and outside. The outside was scored with a bone folder, while the inside with an exacto knife. This allowed the cover to open correctly.
Inside pages arranged and ready for hole punching. Scores were made by the printer.
The punching of holes with the awl didn't create large enough holes to accommodate the thick binding cords, so improvised drilling was done on all the pages.
Measurements were crucial when punching the holes on the cover.
Binding was the fun part!
The complete setup at the portfolio show with a Pina Zangaro aluminum case and a custom aluminum rod. Props to Fort Heavy for the amazing letterpressed business cards!
