2013 TAIWAN DESIGN EXPO x TAIPEI DESIGN CITY EXHIBITION

Based on the concept of “a city in constant development”, Chinese characters “設計” are presented in a three-dimensional way. Designed like a building, the characters are added with scenic spots in Taipei City like Taipei 101 and Maokong Gondola and matched with rich colors, implying that Taipei is a city of design filled with diversity, convenience, happiness and creativity. In the design, people are often seen going upwards through numerous stairs. Penrose stairs invented by British mathematician Roger Penrose is also adopted to highlight the central idea. It is hoped that the charm of Taipei can be fully appreciated by viewers.

Concept of the key visual‭ ‬

The design of the main visual developed from the concept of‭ "‬Adaptive City‭," ‬and adopts three-dimensional architecturalisation of the two Chinese characters‭ "‬‮٣‬‭]‬‮-‬p‭ (‬which means‮!'‬design‮!(‬in English‭)" ‬to present the idea behind this concept‭. ‬The composition of the design allows the two Chinese characters‭ "‬‮٣‬‭]‬‮-‬p‭" ‬to appear to have the form of a building‭, ‬and is additionally permeated with elements specific to Taipei City‭, ‬such as Taipei 101‭; ‬Taipei North Gate‭; ‬the Miramar Ferris wheel‭; ‬and the Maokong Gondola‭; ‬which crisscross back and forth through the‭ "‬building‭." ‬The visual design of this building is matched with a harmonious combination of rich colors to symbolically represent Taipei as a city of diversity‭, ‬convenience‭, ‬and happiness‭ - ‬a city of design filled‭ ‬with creative energy‭.
‬Moreover‭, ‬the visual design further makes use of the concept of the‭ "‬Penrose stairs‭," ‬invented by the British mathematician Roger Penrose‭, ‬by incorporating a multitude of stairs cutting across the building‭, ‬with city residents perpetually making their way up the steps to reflect the central idea behind the visualization of the theme‭ "‬Adaptive City‭." ‬The overall design adopts this intense surrealistic visual scene to convey the message that we are embracing the passion and spirit to continually rejuvenate the city‭, ‬develop new insights‭, ‬and create new lifestyles through the use of the power of design‭. ‬We are collectively using design and creativity to enhance the standard of urban design to allow city residents and the international community to experience the enchantment and charm of Taipei‭ !
