The Shining Poster

The piece draws from the pattern symoblism in the movie. The design of the hotel, the maze, and the iconic carpet all have illusion like patterns that I wanted to replicate here. I achieved this effect by creating one piece of the puzzle, and filling document with the pattern, then I used the paint bucket tool and 3 shades of red to create the text; filling in the appropriate spaces individually. From their I cropped the patterned area and began work on the text, the repetitive nature of it makes one think of a madman. Finally the blood and other effects were added, this was done with a bunch of 3rd party brushes as well as some custom ones by me.
This version has my face as skulls along the bottom, I personally do not like it as much as it detracts from the relative simplicity of the piece. However I could imagine working some other piece of photograpghy into it sometime in the future.
The patterned filled image without effects or text background. Simple and i like it but didnt fully suit my needs. May use it for other things.
The PNG with transparency of the blood spatter layer. This shows the details that may have been hard to see in the final image
This is the pattern that I was able to fill the background with, when it is placed next to other copies it forms the complete image
