The Gothvos Project: I distribute the Greenstone pebbles, they are approximately shaped by the action of the seashore. Greenstone is a material much favoured by the Bronze Age stone-axe makers who took Greenstone from the now submerged deposits off Penlee Point in the mounts bay. Pollen analysis and carbon 14 dating processes confirm that this was a former forest and a place considered special or sacred by those axe makers and those who travelled to and from Mounts Bay. The Axe heads were not weapons, they were sacred or fetish objects, created through hours of polishing and story telling, re-polishing and re-telling before committing the axe head to a created sacred "place" in the landscape. By reimagining the cult of the greenstone axe heads I am travelling away from Mounts Bay carrying the found Greenstone pebble which is deliberately placed into a landscape or interior situation, that placing is undertaken with intense sensitivity to the sorroundings and the self who places the Object into the tabula rasa, the empty space, the moment is captured and documented. Each pebble is inscribed with the word Gothvos, a Brythonic Cornish word meaning "Knowledge, Wisdom or Information". When I started this ritual project I recorded each placing with a specialy adapted Nikon camera using pin-hole techniques in order to achieve a widest possible depth of detail from the pebble to infinity, currently I have requested contributors to travel with the stones to their own tabula rasa and record the momebt which I post on my blog:
