THE ILLUMINATORS
 
These pictures are result of my long-standing fascination with “Band Wallahs” and their entourage who carry series of oil/generator powered lamps. I fondly call them “Illuminators”, because they are the one who add brightness to the festivities, weddings, functions etc.
 
I took these pictures about a year ago in a local Ram Navami procession. Though the procession was scheduled for late evening, these people congregated at the venue just before lunch hours and got busy with the lighting set-up. Since, the event was happening right next door, I took this opportunity to observe them closely. We mostly witness this kind of processions at night and are usually blinded by the bright lights; we miss to observe the people who painstakingly carry the lamps. It’s a very tiring job indeed, they stand for hours and walk non-stop when the procession is on. But, they still sport a smile, although what they earn is not at all commensurate to
