Series of illustrations for the playback theatre

Here’s my last course project which was made during my studies at Projector Institute.
Our customer was the Ukrainian playback theatre Vakhtery. They provided a brief which required me to create a series of illustrations for a tote bag, a T-shirt, a postcard and 3 - 5 stickers.

My work on the brief started by researching playback theatre in general and watching recordings of the particular theatre Vakhtery to understand their work and find things that represent them more. I liked how the story transformed during each performance, so I took this idea of transformation as a starting point.
The main idea of these works is to show feelings that appear during a performance. These illustrations are about creation, transformation and feeling of freedom. This is why I used easy-to-understand symbols such as the moon, stars, sprouts and spirals.
The image of a human is generalised, because in this case what is important is what is inside a person - feelings, emotions and stories. Hands symbolise creation as well as being one of the methods to talk and show emotions.
For the postcard, I chose to use a silhouette of the map of Ukraine and I added in there lots of stories and things I feel connect all of us, from beautiful nature to amazing people.
Stickers
I love how this series of illustrations turned out and I am absolutely happy I studied at such an amazing institution!
Thank you for watching!
