Gray's staff Student Charter
The Brief

I was tasked with completely revamping the student charter, transforming it from a static document into a dynamic and engaging set of resources for creative students. Here's how I’ve achieved this, showcasing a deep dive into self-directed study, research, and a strong understanding of student engagement trends:
I’ve leveraged my self-directed learning by exploring various design techniques in Illustrator; vibrant illustrations, playful typography, even hand-drawn fonts for headings. This caters to the diverse visual preferences of students and injects personality into the charter.

Each spread focuses on a specific theme related to student responsibilities and expectations (e.g., academic integrity, collaboration, wellness).
Multi-Platform Accessibility

Printable/Tearable Format: I’ve design the spreads to function as individual posters. Students can print the entire charter or tear out specific sections they find most relevant to display in their studios or common areas. This caters to their learning styles and creates a more dynamic learning environment.

Flexibility for Staff: Lecturers/Professors can now easily print and display specific sections they want to emphasise in their classrooms, creating a more focused and contextualised approach to student engagement.
Research & Student Psychology

Understanding Student Engagement: I’ve delved into research on student engagement trends. Studies highlight the importance of visual variety, interactivity, and content personalisation in fostering student buy-in. My design choices directly address these findings.

Catering to Creative Minds: Research shows that creative students respond well to open-ended tasks and opportunities for self-expression. The customisable, multi-platform format resonates with their desire for agency and personalised learning experiences.
Self-Directed Learning & Initiative

Learning New Skills: I've actively looked into tutorials and resources to master new design techniques in Illustrator and font creation. This demonstrated initiative and a commitment to self-improvement while enhancing the visual appeal of the charter.

Adapting the Learning Process: As I progressed through the design, I've continuously learned and adapted. Each spread has given me the opportunity to refine my skills and explore different approaches, showcasing a commitment to self-directed learning.
Personal Vision & Understanding of Context

My vision was to create a student charter that's not just informative, but truly engaging for creative students. The multi-platform design caters to their diverse learning styles and creates a more dynamic learning environment. By utilising research on student engagement and actively developing my design skills, I believe this transformed charter will spark genuine student interest and foster a culture of academic responsibility within the creative community.
