Here's a painting I created portraying a very relatable situation for nearly every classic car enthusiast. Where you see a rusting classic car on someone's land with an owner who is less than pleased to see you, and then they begin to look like a bulldog chewing on wasps when you ask the question "can I buy it off you?" This is likely not the first time this owner has encountered eager car enthusiasts inquiring about it, so by this point, you are about as welcome on his land as hair in a biscuit. The car I've portrayed in this piece is virtually a gem in the automotive community. It's a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertible with the 426 Hemi. Basically only 11 of them were ever built, and one of them sold at an auto auction for 2.2 million dollars in 2007! Of the 11 ever produced, 10 of them are alive and well... however the fate of the 11th one remains unknown to this day, so I decided to incorporate the "missing cuda convertible" into this painting showing fictitiously the possible fate of this classic gem in an area where it's so close, but just out of touch. Too often we see the "if i can't have it, nobody can" mentality, or the "I'll fix er up some day" mentality in the car community, and I feel I portrayed that quite well in this painting.
