Photoshop Creative Strategies
As a student in graphic design I was asked to create 6 images using the 6 creative strategies. The 6 creative strategies that were used are combination/Juxtaposition, Isolation, Metaphor/Simile, Change of Context or Environment, Physical Shape Similarity, and Material Change, Swap or Focus. I was to choose an everyday object to communicate a message. The object I chose was a toothbrush.
combination/Juxtaposition
"May Your Toothbrush be With you"
combination: putting 2 things together to make a big picture
I combined a star wars lightsaber fight between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. I used a toothbrush image from Freepik and then used photoshop to cut out the toothbrush image, then using the pen tool I made the lines straight and then changed the colors. Also using photoshop I blurred the background so that the attention was on the toothbrush lightsaber fight.
Isolation
"Lollipop Bunch"
Isolation: drawing attention to one object by separating it from the other objects
In this photo the toothbrush is sticking out, separating it from the lollipops in the persons hand. I used photoshop to cut out each image and then used the healing brush to fix any mistakes.
Metaphor or Simile
"Good Night, Sleep Tight"
Metaphor or simile: show the meaning of the object through relationship
In this image the toothbrush signifies the importance of brushing your teeth before going to bed. I used photoshop to cut out the toothbrush handle, the houses, and the moon. I then used the paintbrush tool to create the stars in the sky.
Change of Context or Environment
"Brush Your Teeth"
change of context or environment: this contrasts with unnatural or uncommon environments
In this image a tooth is brushing it's teeth, this fits in this category as you don't see teeth brushing their teeth. I used photoshop to cut out each item and then used the pen tool to give the eyebrows color.
Physical Shape Similarity
"A New Toothbrush"
Physical shape similarity: connect an object with physical similarities
In this image a toothbrush is combined with a giraffe, the head shape and neck is similar to a toothbrush, I used photoshop to cut out the body of the giraffe and then used the paintbrush to make the face of the giraffe, I also cut out the toothbrush head the ears and the nose, and then used the paintbrush to make a grass design.
Material Change, Swap, or Focus
"Wedding Day"
Material change, swap, or focus: swap something familiar with something else
In this picture a toothbrush and toothpaste are getting married, this signifies an importance of keeping teeth clean and white. I use Illustrate to create the shape of the toothpaste and toothbrush, then I put it into photoshop and used the brush tool to paint flowers and make the dress look more like a wedding dress.
