Healing Slumber Pillow Spray

Healing Slumber Sleep Spray
Due to a variety of conditions, many individuals worldwide experience sleep disruption, which can have a negative impact on their mental and physical wellbeing. Patients in hospital experiencing disruptions due to the clinical environment are a group which experiences sleep discomfort. My goal in this task was to create a unique brand identity for a sleep spray brand targeted at people in hospitals experiencing disrupted sleep.

“Healing Slumber” aimed to fit into the clinical environment seamlessly, yet also provide some colour and life to the dull environment. The brand is calming, affirming and relaxing, guiding patients into a slumber which will aid in the healing of their ailments. It uses lavender and chamomile which are proven to help improve sleep quality for hospital patients (Bakir et al., 2017). It also uses flavours such as grapefruit, valerian root and lemon to address different moods.
Patients in hospital often struggle to achieve restful sleep due to the disruptive clinical environment they are in. Patients may be experiencing a difficult or confronting stay in hospital, due to other physical or mental ailments. A survey I conducted proved that patients experience poor sleep in hospitals for a range of reasons including surgical recovery discomfort and being in and unfamiliar environment, and were willing to try aromatherapy if it was proven to have benefits.

A lack of market competition of holistic remedies to help hospital patients achieve better sleep showed the need for “Healing Slumber.” This is a clear problem as sleep is vital for healing, and sleep deprivation is a common concern for patients in hospitals (Hadi and DuBose, 2016). Research has shown that patients in the ICU who inhaled lavender scents had an increased quality of sleep (Bakir et al., 2017), leading to the conception of “Healing Slumber” with this ingredient.
