The 6 Creative Strategies ART235

ART 235 Project 1
Going into graphic design it was important for me to learn how to successfully navigate the six creative strategies. In this project we first selected an easily recognizable object that we can use to display the Six Creative Strategies. After selecting a common object we researched and discovered ideas for the final images. When we had a clear idea that we wanted to pursue for the final six representational images we then started working on the final images to the best of our abilities. I think this helped me to think about what how to go about creating certain images with relevance in mind.

Combination/Juxtaposition: merges two things into one to show their differences in a way that makes sense to the viewer.
For this strategy, I chose to change the levers into spatulas. Even though they are very different, they are both usually long. I removed the previous levers, replaced them with spatulas, and adjusted the lighting to make them fit more with the rest of the image.
Isolation: literally isolates an element by separating it from everything else. This can be done by creating high contrast usually with color or shape.
To create isolation, I took a metal and a wooden spatula and lined them up next to each other. I isolated the wooden spatula by making it the only one.
Metaphor or Simile: uses meaning to create significance from an element to relate to something else.
I thought of this strategy pretty quickly. I took the spatula and placed it over the pants. I then added some smoke and shadows to the image where the two images meet.
Change of Context/Environment: conveys an idea or meaning by taking elements and placing them in an unnatural environment.
For change of context/environment, I thought that the weirdest place for a kitchen object to be in would be the bathroom. I think that anyone using a spatula in place of a toothbrush would have some tough plaque to get off. I removed the toothbrushes that were in the cup and swapped them with the spatulas I then changed the color of the two.
Physical/Shape Similarity: shows a physical connection or relation between two object that do not normally go together.
A paint brush is one of the best objects that is similarly shaped to a spatula. I would not recommend using a regular spatula for painting. I combined the spatula and the paintbrush, then changed the paint's color after adding texture and colored the canvas.
Material Change/Swap/Focus: uses one element and swaps it with another to highlight a message.
I swapped flowers for spatulas in this composition. To me this makes the spatulas the focal point and shows that flowers and spatulas have some elements in common. I added the petals and the leaves on the two spatulas and then changed the color before adding on to a background.
