This project had me work with San Serif and Serif types to create a design using a certain font and certain colors. The design had characters overlayed on each other to create shapes. The fonts I worked with are: Neue Hass Groteaque Bold (San Serif) and Stemple Garmound. This project made me think of ways to be creative since each font works differently and has different ways that it can be used in this project.
I have always felt that I do a better job with sketches on paper versus when I do them digitally. Sometimes it just doesn't translate well from paper to computer, but I found that in this case, they worked out pretty well. I truly enjoyed this part of the project.
After working on the sketches, I had to pick 6 of the outstanding designs and begin to make slight variations. Out of these 6 I had to pick the one for each font that stood out to me after receiving feedback from my instructor and peers.
I personally felt that the variations I created didn't change much from the orginal digital sketch. However, it did give me a bit more flexablity to play with the design and making sure that I apply the feedback to the design as much as possible.
This is my final design for using a sans serif font. I personally liked this design since I felt it was showing a "playful" scene. The glyphs are overlapping in a way that you can see certain shapes being created.
For the serif design, this one took a bit of time to get right. It was a bit more challenging to create something from these letters. I stuck with simple shapes that I can repeat and tried not to stack too many things towards the center on the canvas.
