Cook of All Cultures
Your Guide to a World of Food
Branding | Publication/Editorial Design
Cook of All Cultures is a hypothetical cooking magazine that seeks to provide readers with a worldly experience of food and culture and to create a personal connection with readers to the food they make. Attached is a pdf of the magazine.
Objective
- Inform readers on the cultural and personal connections and stories behind food and put cooking in a global context.
- Provide perspective on how different cultures and peoples approach cooking and eating.
- Develop a personal connection with readers by allowing them to learn recipes with human stories behind it.
Research
The cooking magazine market is extremely saturated with basic, almost purely utilitarian recipe magazines. To stand out, an editorial would need to feature a unique and creative perspective that provides a closer connection than  just recipes. Online cooking websites are quickly overshadowing cooking magazines, so staying relevant means providing a more intimate, personal experience that is more than just an instruction manual.
Positioning
Our magazine sits in a similar position as bon appetit, elevated but accessible. The price point sits around $10 dollars an issue and comes out bi-monthly. The magazine will be sold in more alternative places, so it wouldn’t be available in a department store or drug store. It would instead be sold in bookstores and stores akin to Urban Outfitters.
