My friend had organised a Black Lives Matter march in Dublin and I wanted to design some pieces to support and raise awareness for this cause.
I looked into media and people that had a significant impact in fighting for the rights of Black people. I wanted to include typography in this piece because I felt like this piece could be more powerful with words. I decided to reference the movie "12 Years a Slave" because it was such an influential movie that is a reminder of the violence of historical slavery and the experiences people had gone through. I used the faces of the cast and the lyrics of the song “Do You Hear the People Sing”. I think this looks more powerful and personal.
