Vienna Waits for You - Visual Interpretation

"Vienna Waits for You"

What does it really take for you to slow down? This project is my personal interpretation of the song Vienna by Billy Joel.

It takes the form of a calendar wrapped around a spool, representing all 365 days as a way for readers to slowly unwind and rewrap the calendar over and over again.
Spools themselves are known to symbolise the desire for something only to be left with nothing at the end. The calendar, however, does have something which is the readers' very own "Vienna". Made of wood, the spool also acts as a way of grounding readers and being genuine with themselves. Vienna Waits for You encourages readers to take their time and enjoy what life has to give them day by day, empty spaces in each day to allow them to write or draw about their day.`

I want the calendar to feel personal for readers, something to help ground them and acts as a reminder. Each day is separated using a dashed line to give readers the freedom to do whatever they want with it; rip it to pieces, cut them, give their day to someone, etc. It's hard to measure time, but once measured, people tend to realise there's more than we believe we have.
