This sketch was based on a thumbnail of a mechanical bumble bee. The setting is at a southwestern United States aircraft test area. A single turbine using hydrogen as fuel powers the bee and all systems including the flapping wings and supplementary forward propulsion. The human figures provide scale and show various roles such as pilots, mechanical crews as well as scientists and engineers. The sketch was scanned and brought into Autodesk Sketchbook Pro where it was refined and rendered. Additional work was done in Photoshop and Illustrator.

The helmet was done to test sketching on a smaller Wacom tablet. The hinge was the main feature of this concept. Pivot mechanisms on the right and left sides of the helmet allow the shield to pivot up easyily. Branding was based on John Player Special livery that is found on race cars and high performance products.
