Design Project - GHUB Mobile

Welcome.

The growing trend of multi-device workflows highlights the need for user-friendly software that transcends device limitations. This short case study explores the design of a mobile application aimed at a specific pain point: managing computer peripherals directly from smartphones or tablets.

Here's the first look at Logitech G-HUB MOBILE.

Logitech's G HUB software offers a robust suite of customization options for Logitech peripherals, but it lacks a mobile counterpart. Additionally, users have reported encountering technical challenges with the desktop software.

This project seeks to address this gap by developing a mobile application that integrates the core functionalities of G HUB, providing a more accessible and intuitive solution for on-the-go users.

By harnessing the touch capabilities of mobile devices and implementing innovative design solutions, this application aims to eliminate the need for repetitive software downloads and streamline the peripheral configuration process.

This study delves into the design process, analyzes the benefits for users, and explores the potential of this mobile application to enhance user experience in the computer peripheral management landscape.

Specific innovative design changes:

- Reduced complexity: The desktop version of Logitech G HUB can be overwhelming for some users with its extensive menus and options when customizing their peripherals. My mobile application design condenses these functionalities by prioritizing the most commonly used settings and hiding advanced options within collapsible menus.

- Focus on visual representation: Leveraging the touch capabilities of mobile devices, the design incorporates interactive sliders, dials, and joystick representations for intuitive peripheral adjustments.

- Card-based layout: Game and application profiles are displayed in a card-based format for easy browsing and selection on a smaller screen. Each card can display a thumbnail image associated with the game or application for better visual recognition.

Target users:

- Gamers: The application primarily targets gamers who frequently travel or participating in E-Sport Tournaments to be able to fine-tune their mouse, keyboard, or headset settings on the go, ensuring optimal performance for each game while switching to new computers. This is possible with the assistance of on-board memory feature integrated on Logitech devices. Additionally, mobile gamers can also use their peripherals for gaming on a mobile device, allowing for a smoother experience.

- Content creators: Streamers, YouTubers, and other content creators who utilize various peripherals can benefit from the ability to quickly adjust microphone levels or webcam settings directly from their phones, streamlining their workflow.

Future Development

This project serves as a springboard for further exploration. While I continue to develop new design skills, I plan to refine this mobile application concept. The roadmap includes creating a fully functional prototype and conducting a user study with real individuals.

Initially, this project focused on familiarizing myself with design software and design thinking methodologies. However, as the project progressed, my goals have evolved. I now envision this application as a tool that enhances user productivity and streamlines the mobile software experience.
