This small book is a personal project suggested by the art course I'm taking.
The Idea was to create a COVER, a BACK COVER and 4 PAGES story, or part of a story, of an important black personality that changed people's lives.
The Idea was to create a COVER, a BACK COVER and 4 PAGES story, or part of a story, of an important black personality that changed people's lives.
I chose Gladys Bentley, the first Drag woman to shake people even in a gay bar, which unfortunately was already a lot for that time.
For that time, she was herself, she was free, she was careless and inspired a lot of people to be more like what they wanted, really wanted to be.
Since this book was supposed to be aimed for younger readers, I opted for a more careless fills, and splash of colors around the characters, as if a kid went over the finished illustration with a colored pencil or paint.
I adore seeing black and white books painted over, they look so much more lived in and loved!
