Wooden Toy Car
For this project I was assigned to make a toy out of solid. The measurement were 200mm long x 120mm wide x 120mm high. The wheels have to move or rotate. The only finish that I could was sanding the car till it was smooth this is because we wanted to leave the wood in its natural form and appreciating like that.
Research
Ideation
In this stage of ideation I was drawing inspiration from my mood board trying to get my designs. I wanted to do a construction car that has an old school look. I chose construction trucks because when I was young I liked things that were related to construction so I would say I allowed my inner kid to take control in this ideation stage. In this stage of my process I had already had my old school construction truck design and you can see on the first image I showed my old design transforming it to the design that i wanted to go with and also i wanted to combine a van and a truck to give that old school look that I was looking for.
Making this toy was fun for me because I like working with wood. It was a learning experience for me and at the same time I was experimenting. I used a variety of machines in the workshop for example I used a hole saw to make the wheels of the car. A lot of sanding was done to get the smooth finish that would be suitable for kids to that they do not get hurt, the last sand paper was a 1200 grit. I used wood glue to join the wood together and I used dowels and glue for the wheels because the wheels had to rotate.
Decal Design
Outcome
I would say for my final design I archived what I was looking for or what I had envisioned in my mind. I like the little details that add more value to the car.
