MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
This short GIF animation is a visual representation of what it feels like to have D.I.D (Dissociative Identity Identity).
Below is my final product (before going through Feedback) for this extended project, it has a total of 30 frames created (336 in total) and is animated at 25 fps. Each frame is on screen for a total of 0.05 seconds in 0.01 segments. This was created in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
Below are all 30 frames in this animation all compiled together.
As you can see, each scene is quite obvious and distinct in where they start and end. This is a total of 3 scenes. Walking, Static and the Car scene. I broke it down into this to help manage each step and how long each scene lasted.
Scene One is the walking and it was created with 15 frames but last 3 seconds on the screen. I had planned to parallax it but this didn't work for the angle I made the background so I had to compromise and do something else.
The Second scene was the static one. This is to represent the time passing whilst that Alter doesn't front for 8 years. During this time they may not have known what has been happening around them. In this instance, this alter was a teenager and hasn't fronted for 8 years. For this scene, I showed the static with two alternating frames that created a TV static effect to represent missing time.
Within that time, the other alters have learnt to drive, meanwhile this teenage alter hasn't gotten older or been taught how to drive. This would be a very scary experience for the Alter and they would most certainly panic in that situation.
As part of a stretch task, I added music and sound to the animation. In the beginning I added 'Dreamers Ball' by Queen with TV static in the middle overlapping both 'Dreamers Ball' and 'Too Sweet' by Hozier which went to the end. The use of these two songs were to show the time difference. 'Dreamers Ball Remastered' came out in 2011 and 'Too Sweet' came out in March 2024.
Finally, having gone through Feedback and realising what people did and didn't like it my animation. I tuned it a bit more and changed the static to be a bit louder, this was so that it would scare the audience a bit more and shock them. The intention isn't to scare them, but to shock them. I also got complaints that the steering wheel kind of blended into the background, so I darkened it. Throughout the feedback, I realised that not everyone knew what D.I.D was, so I decided to add a brief description at the beginning to add context to this animation.

I also talked to my teacher and got some extra feedback on adding some more personality into the animation. She also suggested adding another person before the switch to show the difference between the alters more starkly. This felt like a good way to add context and add another alter to the animation.

This is the final piece for this project with all the feedback implemented.
