WELL HOUSE, A non-profit organization
This was a project I worked on for Well House in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Well House, is a nonprofit that believes the solution to homelessness is housing. Their model is simple: purchase vacant, boarded-up houses and bring them back to life, then move in their neighbors who need housing the most: those who are living on the streets or in emergency shelters. Well House includes people at whatever point they are in their lives, focusing on their strengths and abilities to improve their circumstances. Residents can stay one month or many years depending on their individual situation and needs. Part of why this incredible organization is able to offer this is that they emphasize living gently on the earth and with each other, practicing recycling, energy conservation, farming, gardening, gathering, and preserving food.
